YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Marcus Carter secured CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for Feb. 15, 2016.

Christopher Newport sophomore Marcus Carter claimed CAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this year after averaging a double-double in another 2-0 week for the sixth-ranked Captains, who improved to 16-0 in conference play. Carter recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds in a home win over Mary Washington on Wednesday, before matching a career-high with 27 points along with 10 boards in a road triumph at York. He made 18 of 27 shots (.667%) and added 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. He has now registered four double-doubles this season, and has taken over the team scoring lead.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport (16-0; No. 1 seed) and Salisbury (11-5; No. 2 seed) are the only teams to have clinched playoff spots ... Mary Washington, St. Mary's and Southern Virginia are tied for third at 8-8 in CAC play, with Penn State Harrisburg and Marymount one game back at 7-9 ... CNU (No. 1) and Salisbury (No. 3) are ranked in the NCAA Middle Atlantic Regional Rankings ... In the D3hoops.com Week 9 National Rankings, CNU remained at No. 6 while Salisbury received five votes ... CNU is 22-1 overall and has won 13 straight. The Captains have tied the CAC record for most conference wins in a season (16 in 2014-15 by St. Mary's). Former CAC member Catholic is the only team to finish conference play undefeated (14-0 in 1998). Seven other teams have finished the season with one loss, most recently Catholic in 2003 (13-1) ... James Peters averaged 22 PPG in two OT losses for Frostburg State last week, including a season-high 30 on the road at Southern Virginia ... Sophomore Eric Shaw averaged 14.5 PPG last week, as Mary Washington split its two contests. He scored 17 at CNU on Wednesday, and added 12 in a big CAC win for the Eagles on Saturday. He grabbed 17 rebounds, including 10 at CNU, and blocked seven shots this week ... Marymount stayed in the playoff hunt with a 1-1 week. The Saints defeated Penn State Harrisburg, 63-62, before falling to Mary Washington 61-58. Michael Anderson averaged 15 PPG on 71.4% shooting for the Saints, including a game-high 21 points vs. Penn State Harrisburg. He scored seven of the last 11 points for MU in the win over the Lions ... Tanner Brooks collected a pair of 20-point games in leading St. Mary's to a 2-0 week and helping the Seahawks extend their winning streak to three ... Southern Virginia's Anders Jacobson scored 27 in an overtime victory over Frostburg State. He leads the team in PPG and ranks second in RPG with 6.0 ... JW Lawson led Wesley to a 1-1 week, keeping the team alive in the playoff hunt. The sophomore guard scored 18 points in a 68-62 loss to Salisbury on Wednesday and followed that performance with a 30-point game in an 84-82 win over Frostburg State on Saturday ... York's Dalton Myers tallied averages of 24.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last week.
