YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore McKinney Harwood was selected as the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for April 5, 2016.

Christopher Newport sophomore McKinney Harwood was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after winning all three of her No. 1 singles matches against nationally-ranked teams at the Fifth Annual Nor-Easter Bowl hosted by Wellesley. Harwood opened the week with a 6-4, 2-6, 12-10 victory over Haley Cohen of 31st-ranked Brandeis. She then registered straight-set victories over 34st-ranked Wellesley's Carina Chen, 6-2, 6-4, and Eleni Gianelos of 28th-ranked Babson, 6-1, 6-4. Babson's Gianelos is ranked 17th in the Northeast Region. Harwood also teamed with Katie Carlson for a No. 1 doubles victory against Wellesley.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Just a week and a half remains in the CAC regular season ... The CAC Tournament begins on Friday, April 15 with first round matches ... Mary Washington (4-0) and Christopher Newport (3-0) are unbeaten in conference play, and will clash this Saturday ... In the March 31 ITA National Rankings, Mary Washington (No. 18) and Christopher Newport (No. 33) both retained their previous rankings ... In the ITA Atlantic South Regional Rankings, UMW is No. 6, CNU is No. 7 and Salisbury is No. 9 ... Individually, UMW's Kait Brogan (No. 11), Salisbury's Natalie Savage (No. 12), CNU's McKinney Harwood (No. 19), and Salisbury's Zoe Moffatt (No. 21) are regionally ranked ... Three CAC doubles teams are regionally ranked, with UMW's Kait Brogan & Shelby Harris at No. 4, CNU's McKinney Harwood & Katie Carlson at No. 8 and Salisbury's Natalie Savage & Zoe Moffatt at No. 9 ... Mary Washington senior Mackenzie Smith won a pair of singles matches and two of three doubles matches for the 18th-ranked Eagles this weekend. On Saturday, she picked up a point in UMW's 5-4 loss at No. 13 Washington & Lee, winning at five singles 6-1, 6-2. On Sunday, she moved up to four singles and defeated her opponent from Franklin & Marshall, 6-2, 6-1. She and Taylor Diffley won at one doubles against Southern Virginia, 8-0, before falling at two against the Generals, 8-4. On Sunday, she and Diffley won at two against F&M, 8-0 ... Salisbury senior Natalie Savage won singles and doubles contests in two CAC matches this week, claiming the school record for doubles victories along the way. With an 8-0 No. 1 doubles win against Penn State Harrisburg with partner Zoe Moffat on Saturday, the win was her 57th in doubles play, passing Katie Youlios, who won 56 in her career. Savage added a doubles win against York, also an 8-0 score, later in the day, to bring her to 58 total doubles victories in her career.
