YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Ashlyn Dacey and York senior Megan Strauch earned CAC Women's Lacrosse weekly awards for April 18, 2016.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington senior Ashlyn Dacey was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 11 goals in CAC wins over Christopher Newport and Marymount last week. Dacey opened the week by scoring four times in the Eagles' 12-4 win over No. 15 CNU, before adding a career-high seven scores in a 13-10 win over Marymount on Saturday. She has 27 goals and nine assists on the season. 

Defensive Player of the Week

York senior Megan Strauch was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to road wins over Catholic and Christopher Newport last week. Strauch began the week with four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers in the Spartans' 9-8 win over Catholic. She followed that performance with three ground balls, four draw controls and a caused turnover in the 10-5 win over CNU, securing the No. 4 seed and a first round home game for York. For the year, Strauch has team-highs of 42 ground balls, 37 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The 2016 CAC Tournament begins on Wednesday with a pair of first round contests ... No. 1 Salisbury and No. 2 St. Mary's received first round byes and will host the semifinals on Saturday ... In Wednesday's first round, No. 3 Mary Washington will host No. 6 Marymount, while No. 4 York will host No. 5 Christopher Newport. Both matchups are set for 4 p.m. starts ... Five CAC teams are ranked in both national polls ... In the IWLCA National Rankings, Salisbury is No. 3, St. Mary's is No. 13, Mary Washington and York are tied for No. 14, and Christopher Newport is No. 16 ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury is No. 4, St. Mary's is No. 14, Mary Washington is No. 15, York is No. 16, and Christopher Newport is No. 17 ... Mary Washington's Kirsten Littlefield collected five ground balls and a team-high 10 draw controls while causing a pair of turnovers last week ... Marymount sophomore Abby Wescott notched a nine-point week, including seven assists. Her seven assists gives her 64 for her career, already a program record. With her 43 assists so far this season, she leads the CAC and ranks second in the country (just three shy of the leader) ... Tori Poffenberger helped St. Mary's to a 2-0 week and the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament. Poffenberger started the week with four goals, a career-best five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls in the road win at Marymount. She wrapped up the week with two goals on two shots plus one assist in the regular-season finale at Frostburg State. Mackenzie Rayburn had a career day for the Seahawks in the win at Marymount with career-bests of five draw controls and three caused turnovers along with three ground balls ... Salisbury fell for just the second time this season, dropping an 8-7 decision to No. 3 TCNJ in a top-five showdown on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Gabrielle Mongno tallied four goals and an assist to help the Sea Gulls past Wesley, 19-2 ... Rainey Whitworth led Southern Virginia with six goals vs. Frostburg State, finishing the season with a conference-leading 44 goals ... Maddison Cypher was stellar for Wesley in a 1-1 week. The sophomore midfielder scored three goals and dished off an assist in a win against Southern Virginia. She also earned a team-high seven ground balls and recorded a caused turnover in the win. Against Salisbury, Cypher earned a pair of ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover ... York's Katelyn Cattrano scored three goals and added three assists in the Spartans' key 10-5 win over CNU. For the year, Cattrano has 29 points on 12 goals and 17 assists.
