Salisbury Senior Megan Wallenhorst and St. Mary's Senior Kayla Dunn Named CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury senior Megan Wallenhorst and St. Mary's senior Kayla Dunn were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for April 4, 2016.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Megan Wallenhorst claimed CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after tallying 14 points in wins over Marymount and Frostburg State. Wallenhorst notched back-to-back seven-point performances on the week, registering three goals and 11 assists. In a 15-3 win over Marymount, Wallenhorst led the team with a game-high five assists to go along with two goals. She added seven more points in a 18-3 victory over Frostburg State on Saturday, notching six assists and scoring a goal to lead the Sea Gulls.

St. Mary's senior Kayla Dunn was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a 5.00 goals against average with 23 saves and a .697 save percentage in a 2-0 week that included wins over York and Wesley. Dunn held York to a season-low four goals last Wednesday with 11 saves. She then tallied 12 saves in the Seahawks' triumph over Wesley, one save shy of her career-high.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

The CAC regular season is now more than halfway complete, with all nine teams having played at least four conference contests ... Salisbury (5-0) and Christopher Newport (4-0) remain perfect in CAC play, and will face off on Tuesday in Newport News, Va. with first place on the line ... Five CAC teams are ranked in both national polls ... In the IWLCA National Rankings, Salisbury is No. 4, Mary Washington is No. 13, St. Mary's is No. 14, Christopher Newport is No. 15, and York is No. 17 ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury is No. 3, Mary Washington is No. 14, Christopher Newport is No. 15, St. Mary's is No. 16, and York is No. 17 ... Christopher Newport's Catie Chess posted a career-high seven goals at Roanoke on Friday, marking the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. She also registered three points, including a pair of goals, against Southern Virginia on Wednesday ... Frostburg State junior Emani Byrd caused six turnovers, scooped up five ground balls, scored one goal, handed out one assist and posted two draw controls in the Bobcats' loss to Salisbury ... Mary Washington goalkeeper Hannah Ashby was instrumental in the Eagles' 11-6 win at York on Saturday, making eight saves and helping to limit the Spartans to one second-half goal. She also allowed just one score in 30 minutes against Wesley earlier in the week. Ashlyn Dacey totaled two goals and five assists to lead the UMW attack last week. She has 11 goals and eight assists on the season .... Marymount's Abby Wescott broke the program record for single-season assists (29) last week while also cracking the 100-point mark for her career. Her 31 assists this season ranks second in the nation ... Erika Kopf netted the game-winning goal with 5:31 remaining in St. Mary's 5-4 victory over York in a battle of top-20 teams ... Salisbury's Kacy Koolage controlled the defensive end of the field last week, totaling six ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls ... Rainey Whitworth leads Southern Virginia in goals and assists this season ... Alexis Galloway was stout on defense for the Wolverines last week, causing five turnovers with five ground balls on the week.
