YORK, Pa. -- A pair of freshmen captured this week's conference awards as Mary Washington's Mackenzie Maguire and Christopher Newport's Emma Walsh were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 7, 2016.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington freshman Mackenzie Maguire secured CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades after leading the 18th-ranked Eagles to wins at Meredith and Southern Virginia with 10 goals and three assists on the week. Maguire tallied six goals and three assists against Meredith on Wednesday, before scoring four times in the Eagles' CAC-opening win over Southern Virginia. She has 19 goals and four assists for the season. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport freshman Emma Walsh was tabbed as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Captains to a pair of victories, including the program's first-ever triumph over a team ranked in the IWLCA Top-10. On Thursday, she guided CNU to a 9-8 victory over No. 10 Catholic with a career-high five ground balls and 14 saves, including eight stops in the second half to prevent a comeback from Catholic. She also made three saves on free-position attempts while helping the defense stop five of Catholic's six eight-meter opportunities during the game. Two days later, Walsh continued her week with 10 more saves during a 15-5 triumph over Lebanon Valley. Once again, she excelled during free-position opportunities as she made five stops on eight-meter shots. Overall, Walsh finished the week with 24 saves and seven ground balls. Eight of her saves came on free-position attempts as she helped the defense stop 13 of the opposition's 15 total eight-meter opportunities.

In the IWLCA National Rankings, Salisbury is No. 7, York is No. 8, Mary Washington is No. 16 and Christopher Newport and St. Mary's are receiving votes ... Four teams are ranked in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, with Salisbury at No. 7, York at No. 8 and Mary Washington at No. 17 and St. Mary's at No. 18 ... Mary Washington (6-0), Salisbury (4-0) and St. Mary's (4-0) remain unbeaten in 2016 ... Frostburg State's Morgan Cavey finished her career-opening weekend with five goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Bobcats. Cavey tallied four goals, incluidng the game-winner in overtime, as Frostburg State rallied past Virginia Wesleyan, 12-11 ... Marymount went 2-0 last week with wins over Goucher and Bridgewater. Kelly Campbell scored a career- and game-high four goals in the 10-8 victory over Bridgewater ... St. Mary's Tori Poffenberger collected her 150th career point with a four-point performance in a 12-10 win at Randolph-Macon. Poffenberger began St. Mary's 2-0 week with season-bests of four assists and seven points in a dominant 18-8 win at McDaniel, before notching three goals and one assist vs. Randolph-Macon. Goalkeeper Kayla Dunn recorded a career-best 13 saves against McDaniel ... Salisbury defeated Washington & Lee 14-5 in its lone game of the week. Gabbi Nieves led the SU attack with four goals, three draw controls and three caused turnovers ... Southern Virginia's Zoe Bradshaw tallied eight goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for the Knights, and now has 12 goals on the year. Bradshaw was involved in half of the goals in the 14-5 win over Randolph ... Wesley went 1-2 on the week. Freshman Bailey Olds tallied three goals and seven assists in a 19-2 blowout against Mt. St. Vincent, and a goal against Misericordia ... York posted a pair of 8-5 wins over No. 14 Messiah and Haverford last week. Senior defender Megan Strauch totaled 10 ground balls, six draw controls, three caused turnovers and two goals for the week. For the season, Strauch has 16 ground balls, 10 draw controls, six caused turnovers and two goals and one assist on just two shots.
