Frostburg State Junior Hannah Tavik and York Freshman Jenny Coyle Honored as CAC Softball Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State junior Hannah Tavik and York freshman Jenny Coyle were honored as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 28, 2016.

Frostburg State junior Hannah Tavik was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with nine RBIs, three runs scored, three doubles, a triple and a home run in a 4-0 week for the Bobcats. Tavik finished Saturday's doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg with five hits, six RBIs, two doubles and a triple as the Bobcats improved to 14-6. She registered at least one hit and one RBI in all four contests, and posted an on-base percentage of .563 and a slugging percentage of 1.067.

York freshman Jenny Coyle earned CAC Pitcher of the Week accolades after recording a pair of complete-game victories for the Spartans last week. She began the week with a complete-game shutout of Lycoming last Thursday, tossing six innings and scattering three hits with one walk. Coyle followed that up with another complete-game win over Southern Virginia, holding the Knights to four hits with three strikeouts and a walk. For the week, Coyle went 2-0 with a 1.27 ERA and allowed just seven hits in 11 innings of work on the mound.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

CAC play opened up this past weekend with a full slate of doubleheaders across the conference ... In the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) March 23 rankings, Christopher Newport is No. 3 and Salisbury is No. 9 ... In a rematch of the CAC championship, CNU and Salisbury split their doubleheader on Saturday in Newport News, Va. ... In addition to her stellar week at the plate, Frostburg State's Hannah Tavik pushed her record on the mound to 9-1 with two victories last week ... Mary Washington freshman Kara Deppe pitched in four games for the Eagles last week, throwing a pair of complete games in her two starts. She fell in a 3-1 decision to Randolph-Macon, and downed Wesley. For the week, she posted a 1.87 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 15 innings. Senior Emily Briggs hit .389 for the week in six games, with seven hits, including two doubles and a triple. She scored four runs for the Eagles, and drove in four as well ... Penn State Harrisburg's Rieley Loch went 6-for-16 with seven RBIs last week ...  Salisbury's Annah Brittingham posted two wins on the mound last week, including a complete-game shutout against Washington College, and also hit a team-leading .416 with four runs scored ... Wesley's Ashley Royer continued the hot start to her college career with a 4-for-7 performance in a doubleheader split against Mary Washington on Saturday. The freshman went 3-for-4 in game one with three RBIs, including a walk-off RBI triple that brought home Nina Marcano in the bottom of the seventh for the 5-4 win ... York's Savannah Zittle led the Spartans to a big offensive week as York went 4-0 including a pair of CAC victories at Southern Virginia on Saturday. For the week, Zittle hit .429 with nine RBIs, four runs scored, three doubles, four walks, and a .579 on-base percentage. For the season, Zittle is hitting a team-best .431 with 20 RBIs, 14 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, and one home run. She has drawn six walks and owns a team best .488 on-base percentage.
