YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Justin Cerny was awarded as the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 8, 2016.

Christopher Newport sophomore Justin Cerny was awarded as the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week after winning all six of his matches at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles last week. Two of those matches were against nationally-ranked opponents, including a win over 34th-ranked Cal Lutheran. In singles, Cerny defeated opponents from Cal Lutheran and Wabash in straight sets, and posted a three-set victory at No. 2 singles against 14th-ranked Redlands. In doubles, he teamed with David Reed for three convincing wins, surrendering just five total games in the three matches.

In the lone CAC contest of the year thus far, Salisbury defeated Southern Virginia 6-3 last Friday ... Mary Washington is ranked No. 15 in the ITA national rankings and No. 4 in the Atlantic South Region, while Christopher Newport is No. 32 nationally and No. 9 in the region. Salisbury is No. 10 in the region ... In the ITA singles rankings, UMW's Brandon Griffin is No. 32 in the nation and No. 9 in the region, UMW's Stratton Gilmore is No. 42 in the nation and No. 11 in the region, UMW's David Lunding-Johansson is No. 16 in the region, and CNU's David Reed is No. 21 ... In the regional doubles rankings, Gilmore and Griffin are ranked 10th for the Eagles ... Mary Washington freshman Matt Miles picked up a pair of singles wins against top-15 ranked opponents from Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands this week. He scored a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win at six singles against No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer, and then took another three setter, 6-4, 6-7, 10-8, at six against No. 14 Redlands. He is 9-1 in singles this season ... Salisbury's Shanon Gunther was 3-0 this past week, claiming a 6-2, 6-1 win in his first time at the No. 1 singles slot of the year, against Southern Virginia. Against Franklin & Marshall, the No. 16 team in the South Atlantic Region, Gunther picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and a three-set win 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 10-8 at No. 2 singles ... York's Sam Innerst picked up a singles win and a doubles win to lead the Spartans to a tight 5-4 win over Stevenson in the Spartans' only match for the week. Innerst picked up a three-set win over Bryan Gieselman in the first singles match and teamed with Devin Lehigh to earn a second doubles win for the Green and White.
