Christopher Newport Senior Will Geise, York Sophomore Billy Sasso, and Salisbury Junior Kyle Tucker Receive CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Will Geise, York sophomore Billy Sasso, and Salisbury junior Kyle Tucker were named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 13, 2017.

Christopher Newport senior Will Geise received CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades after totaling nine points in the Captains' 13-8 victory over Messiah. Geise equaled the CNU single-game program record of nine points after notching six goals and three assists in the win. His six goals also tied the second-highest single-game total in CNU history. During the first half, Geise scored the team's first five goals and assisted on the next two as the Captains eventually built an 8-3 halftime lead. In the second half, Geise came back with another goal and assist in the first five minutes of the third quarter to cap off his historic effort.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Billy Sasso | York | So. | FO

Freehold, N.J. | Freehold Township

York sophomore Billy Sasso was honored as the CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after winning 83.3% (30-of-36) of face-offs last week in wins over No. 10 Gettysburg and Haverford. Sasso began the week by going 19-for-24 at the X with a game-high nine ground balls in a 16-8 win over the Bullets. Sasso's work at the X enabled York to fire off 46 shots in the game as they were plus 19 vs. the Bullets. In the win over Haverford, Sasso went 11-for-12 at the X, playing in just the first half in the lopsided win over the Fords. Sasso also scored a goal off a face-off win for his second goal of the year. For the year, Sasso is winning 70.5% (93-for-132) of his face-offs and also leads York with 51 ground balls. 

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Kyle Tucker | Salisbury | Jr. | D

Chester Springs, Pa. Downingtown East

Salisbury junior Kyle Tucker was tabbed as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Salisbury defense to a convincing 14-1 victory over Washington College on Saturday. Tucker tallied seven ground balls and four caused turnovers in the win. The Sea Gulls allowed just three shots on cage and did not concede a goal until the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. Washington College entered the contest with a 5-0 record and averaging 11.8 goals per game.

Salisbury is ranked No. 1 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, while York is ranked No. 6 by the USILA and No. 8 by Nike/Lacrosse Magazine ... Salisbury is the lone remaining unbeaten in the CAC at 6-0 overall ... Saturday will mark the first full slate of CAC action this season, with four matchups across the conference ... Frostburg State junior Keegan Colegrove scored five goals and handed out one assist in a 2-0 week for the Bobcats. Colegrove notched three goals and one assist in a 10-5 win over McDaniel, and tallied two goals in an 11-8 upset of No. 9 Cabrini ... Mary Washington senior Miles Davis turned in the top offensive performance for the Eagles last week, as UMW topped Washington & Lee, 16-13, on the road Wednesday and fell late to Catholic, 11-10, on Saturday. He scored one goal and added three assists at W&L, and added three goals and one assist against Catholic ... Marymount junior Brent Sulhoff had a career day in an 18-6 victory over Beloit on Wednesday, shoving away a game-high five goals including two man-up opportunities. MU sophomore Christian Lutz went 20-for-27 on face-offs last week for the Saints, adding his first goal of the year against Lebanon Valley ... Max Groen paced St. Mary's with 10 points in two games this past week. Highlighting Groen's week were career-highs of five goals, three assists, eight points, and three ground balls against Illinois Wesleyan. Max Alderman averaged 15 saves in two games for St. Mary's, including a career-best 20 stops against Illinois Wesleyan ... Salisbury senior Nathan Blondino had an offensive outburst against Washington College going for eight points via three goals and five assists. Blondino now leads the CAC in assists with 17, while his 26 points ranks fourth ... Freshman Shawn Lamb led Southern Virginia with six goals in a 17-15 loss to Merchant Marine. Lamb leads the Knights in goals, assists, points, shots, and shots on goal this season ... Josh Wassum netted a hat trick and an assist in Wesley's 11-10 win over Ferrum. Goalkeeper James Cella tallied 27 saves on the week, including 20 against Stockton to tie a season-high ... York junior goalkeeper Landry Marshall posted a 6.25 goals against average in wins over No. 10 Gettysburg and Haverford last week. For the year, Marshall owns a 6.46 goals against average and a .547 save percentage for the 6-1 Spartans. He has played 399 minutes of the Spartans' 427 minutes.
