York Sophomore Brendan McGrath and Wesley Freshman James Cella Named CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week
YORK, Pa. -- York sophomore Brendan McGrath and Wesley freshman James Cella were named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 27, 2017.

York sophomore Brendan McGrath was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 12 goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the fifth-ranked Spartans. McGrath opened the week with seven points on five goals and two assists in the Spartans' victory over Elizabethtown. He then recorded a career day in a win over Aurora, tallying a school-record-tying seven goals. For the year, McGrath leads the CAC in scoring with 23 points and a conference-best 17 goals.

Wesley freshman James Cella was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after securing a pair of wins in goal in a 2-0 week for the Wolverines. Cella posted a save percentage of 58.1% in victories over Rosemont and Immaculata, totaling 25 saves on the week, including 20 stops against Immaculata. He registered a goals against average of 8.70.

Salisbury is ranked No. 1 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, while York is ranked No. 5 in both polls ... Salisbury (4-0) and York (4-0) are both unbeaten on the year, while Wesley (2-1) also boasts a winning record ... Senior Ryan Mills led Christopher Newport with nine points last week, including five during a 14-3 triumph at Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. He registered at least a hat-trick in both contests, scoring three times against Randolph-Macon and four times at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday ... Frostburg State defeated Franklin & Marshall 9-8, led by two goals and one assist from junior Adam Gross ... Senior Mike Marson led Mary Washington with four goals and two assists in the Eagles' two games this week. Marson had a goal and an assist in a 13-7 loss at Albright, and added three goals and an assist in a 13-9 loss to No. 18 Ursinus on Saturday ... Marymount junior Nathan Beard registered a game-high five points off two goals and three assists on Saturday in a close battle at home against Bridgwater (Va.) ... Salisbury topped No. 6 Gettysburg 10-9 in overtime. Garrett Reynolds scored two goals and added an assist, while Andrew Ternahan led the Sea Gulls in both groundballs (7) and caused turnovers (3). The Salisbury defense only allowed 14 shots on goal and cleared the ball on 20-of-21 attempts ... Dan Long paced St. Mary's in scoring this past week with five goals in two games. Long started the week with a hat trick and three ground balls at Eastern before tacking on two more scores at Marywood. Jack Elliott led the St. Mary's defensive effort with seven caused turnovers and three ground balls, including career-bests of four caused turnovers and three ground balls at Marywood ... Southern Virginia freshman Shawn Lamb scored two of the Knights' four goals on Saturday, and added an assist. Lamb leads the Knights in all offensive categories ... Freshman Leo Kelly scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to propel Wesley over Rosemont on Wednesday. Kelly tallied five points (four goals, one assist) on the week while picking up two ground balls ... York knocked off Elizabehtown and Aurora to improve to 4-0. Sophomore Billy Sasso went 26-36 at the X with eight groundballs and a goal scored. For the season, Sasso is leading the team in face offs at 66.7% (50-of-75) and also has 33 ground balls for the Spartans. He is tied for first in the CAC in total face offs won while his percentage is tops in the league among all qualifying players.
