Christopher Newport Freshman Tony Cruz and Salisbury Senior Connor Anderson Tabbed as CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport freshman Tony Cruz and Salisbury senior Connor Anderson earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week accolades for March 16, 2015.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport freshman Tony Cruz was tabbed as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after going 33-for-37 on faceoffs last week and setting a new CNU single-game program record against Virginia Wesleyan. In the Captains' win over Virginia Wesleyan, Cruz won 24-of-25 faceoffs for a .960 winning percentage, including a perfect 10-for-10 mark in the first quarter. He also collected seven ground balls against the Marlins. He followed up the record-breaking performance by going 9-for-12 on faceoffs in the win against Coast Guard. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior goalkeeper Connor Anderson was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after picking up his first two victories as the Sea Gulls' starter in the cage this week, 13-4 over Hampden-Sydney and 17-6 over St. Mary's. He played a total of 105 minutes in the goal on the week, making 14 saves and only allowing seven goals. Anderson tallied seven saves in each game, ending the week with a 66.7 save percentage and a 4.00 goals against average.

In the USILA Rankings, Salisbury is No. 15, York is No. 20 and Frostburg State and Christopher Newport are receiving votes ... In Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury is No. 14 and Christopher Newport is No. 17 ... Nick Stailey posted 13 points in three games as Frostburg State captured three more wins and improved its record to 7-0 on the season. Stailey registered four goals and one assist in wins over Illinois Wesleyan and Lycoming and added two goals and one assist as the Bobcats opened CAC play with a 14-7 victory over Marymount ... Mary Washington senior Jack Bondurant led the Eagles last week with seven goals and an assist, including three goals and an assist at Washington & Lee (playing a hand in four of the Eagles' five goals), and added four scores in a 15-5 win over Southern Virginia ... Kyle Goss helped lead Salisbury to two wins last week, including its first CAC win in a 17-6 victory over St. Mary's. Goss tallied 10 points on the week, with seven goals ... Wesley's Jack Redefer recorded a career-high eight points on four goals and a career-high four assists against DeSales ... York went 1-1 last week with a 12-6 loss to No. 8 Gettysburg and a 15-5 triumph over Haverford.
