York Senior Alexa Taylor and Christopher Newport Senior Bailey Lien Receive CAC Field Hockey Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- York senior Alexa Taylor and Christopher Newport senior Bailey Lien were selected as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Oct. 31, 2016. 

Offensive Player of the Week

York senior Alexa Taylor was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying three assists and one goal in a 2-0 week, helping the Spartans advance to the CAC semifinals. Taylor began the week with three assists on a trio of corners as the Spartans' key inserter on penalty corners. She assisted on all three of Ali Posey's goals. She followed that up with a goal on two shots in the 3-0 win over St. Mary's in the CAC first round. This season, Taylor leads the team in assists with six and has scored three goals. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Bailey Lien was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Captains to their ninth shutout of the season with a 1-0 blanking of Mary Washington on Wednesday. Facing the nation's second-ranked scoring offense, Lien made four saves to shut out the Eagles and lock up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC playoffs. That effort marked her fourth solo shutout of the year.

Salisbury remained ranked No. 2 in last week's Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, while Mary Washington was one of five teams receiving votes ... CAC semifinal matchups are set for Wednesday, with fourth-seeded York (13-5) at top-seeded Salisbury (14-1) at 6 p.m. and third-seeded Mary Washington (11-5) at second-seeded Christopher Newport (14-4) at 6 p.m. ... Mary Washington closed the regular season with a 1-0 loss at CNU, and will return to Newport News for the CAC semifinal on Wednesday ... Courtney Mellon helped St. Mary's to a regular-season finale win with her second goal of the season against Virginia Wesleyan ... Abbey Shobe scored twice in Salisbury's 7-0 victory at Wesley on Wednesday night. She now has a team-high 13 goals on the year ... York's Ali Posey notched a hat trick in the regular-season finale win over Frostburg State. She enters the CAC semifinals with 30 points on 13 goals and four assists, and four game-winning goals.
