YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury senior Becca Rinaca and Christopher Newport sophomore Brittan Muir were named the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 6, 2016. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Becca Rinaca was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six goals in a 3-0 opening week for the Sea Gulls, including a hat trick in the season-opener at Washington College. Rinaca scored twice a victory over Misericordia and found the back of the cage once against King's (Pa.). She converted the six golas on just 14 shots. The hat trick was the second of her career. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Brittan Muir was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the CNU defense to back-to-back shutouts against Goucher and Oberlin to start the year. Muir and the Captains' defense allowed just one total shot during the two games, holding Goucher without a single shot attempt. She led the team with 161 minutes of action between the two contests. Along with leading the defensive unit, Muir also assisted on the other end of the field as the anchor of the team's offensive penalty corner unit. Playing that role, she registered an assist in both contests while helping the team convert a pair of corner opportunities.

Salisbury is ranked No. 7 in the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, with Mary Washington (No. 12) and Christopher Newport (No. 14) also in the top 20 ... Christopher Newport posted a pair of shutout wins, defeating Goucher 4-0 on Sunday and Oberlin 7-0 on Monday ... Frostburg State's Jacquelyn Nava opened the 2016 season with one goal and one assist in the Bobcats' 4-3 overtime loss at McDaniel ... Mary Washington opened the season with a 3-0 win over Dickinson, but fell to No. 18 Rochester, 2-1, on Saturday. Senior Christine Loehr posted a goal and an assist for UMW ... Mollie Belson tallied a goal in each of St. Mary's first two games of the season. The Seahawks suffered a pair of close losses, falling to Dickinson 4-2 on Saturday, and No. 18 Rochester 2-1 in OT on Sunday ... Salisbury goalkeeper Tressie Windsor surrendered just one goal in three victories this week, posting a 0.36 GAA with six saves on the week ...
