Mary Washington Freshman Rachel Summers Picks Up Second Straight CAC Weekly Honor

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington freshman Rachel Summers was named CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week on April 11, 2017.

Mary Washington freshman Rachel Summers was named the CAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after going undefeated in singles and doubles play last week for the 17th-ranked Eagles. Summers went 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles, including a pair of victories in a 5-4 loss to 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles defeated York and Penn State Harrisburg, moving them to 6-0 in conference play and locking up the top seed in the CAC Tournament.

Mary Washington (6-0 CAC) has already locked up the top seed in the tournament, and will look to complete its 11th consecutive perfect conference season in Tuesday's matchup at St. Mary's ... In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, Mary Washington is No. 17 and Christopher Newport is No. 24 ... In the ITA regional rankings, UMW is No. 6, CNU is No. 7, and Salisbury is No. 13 ... In the ITA regional singles rankings, UMW's Kait Brogan is No. 10 and Taylor Diffley is No. 20, CNU's McKinney Harwood is No. 16 and Johanna Ranta-aho is No. 18, and Salisbury's Annika Kezman is No. 25 ... CNU's Johanna Ranta-aho did not surrender a game in her two wins this week, helping CNU cruise to 9-0 shutout at Frostburg State ... St. Mary's clinched a CAC playoff spot with a 6-3 win over Southern Virginia on Monday ...
