FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport seniors Jeff Dover and Brendon Burrows swept the CAC Men's Track & Field weekly honors for April 3, 2018.

Christopher Newport senior Jeff Dover secured CAC Track Athlete of the Week accolades after shattering the CNU record in the 5,000 meters at the Blue & Silver Challenge on Saturday. Dover crossed the line in 14:35.06, which shaved over seven seconds off the previous standard of 14:42.96 set by teammate Grayson Reid in 2017. Dover's clocking also ranks fifth in the NCAA this year and stands as the best mark in the CAC by over 21 seconds.

Christopher Newport senior Brendon Burrows claimed CAC Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning two events and setting a school record at the Blue & Silver Challenge on Saturday. Headlining his efforts, he won the discus with a 50.81-meter toss. That established a new benchmark at CNU, breaking the previous standard of 49.74 meters set by teammate Legend Hayes in 2017. It also ranks third in the NCAA this year and first in both the CAC and South / Southeast Region. Burrows also claimed the title in the shot put with a 15.39-meter toss. That ranks third in school history and 13th in the NCAA this year.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State first-year Jacob Terry accounted for a pair of the ECAC times, qualifying in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna. Terry finished third in the 110 hurdles at a time of 16.50 and eighth in the 400 hurdles at 58.95 ... Freshman Davon Guerrier led Mary Washington at the Fred Hardy Invitational, winning the 100 meter hurdles in the non-DI division at 14.72 seconds and also finished fifth in the 400 hurdles at 55.59 seconds. Sophomore David Danek took top honors in the high jump at the Fred Hardy Invitational in the non DI division, with a first place leap of 2.02 meters ... Salisbury senior Duncan Ferrin broke the school record in the hammer throw at the Blue & Silver Challenge with a toss of 186'-7", breaking the previous record of 183'-9" set by Jay Drenner in 2012. Senior Malcolm Milton earned a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the Sea Gulls, finishing in 9:50.42. Milton also earned a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, coming home in a time of 1:00.26 ... Wesley competed at the Navy Invitational on Saturday. Freshman Thomas Kalieta Jr. collected two golds, picking up a win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.33 seconds, nearly a full second faster than the second-place time, teaming with Tysean Cousar, Dominic McAnulty and Jordan Dillard to win the 4x400-meter relay with a first place time of 3:21.42. Tre' Johnson picked up a win in the triple jump at the Navy Invitational with a mark of 14.34 meters (47-0.75). Johnson's leap ranks second in the Mideast Region and fourth in Division III ... York senior Alex Smith finished second in the 5,000 meter run on Wednesday at the York College Twilight Meet. Smith notched a time of 14:56.87 as he finished just .01 seconds behind the race winner, Bryce Descavish from Dickinson. The time is the second best in the CAC so far this outdoor season. Freshman Trevor Joseph won the pole vault at the York College Twilight meet on a cool and misty Wednesday in York. Joseph posted a best height of 4.05 meters (13' 3.5") to win the event, besting 12 other vaulters to win the individual title. The height is the second best in the CAC so far in the outdoor season.
