St. Mary's Sophomore Matt Walchuck Named CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week

St. Mary's sophomore Matt Walchuck nabbed CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week honors after guiding the Seahawks to a road win over Salisbury with a pair of late wins. St. Mary's overcame an 88-81 deficit late in the meet with Walchuck's key wins in the 400 freestyle and 200 individual medley. His first-place finish in the 400 free returned the lead to the Seahawks, 108-99, with three events remaining. Salisbury claimed the next event to close the gap to 117-109 before Walchuck struck again in the 200 IM for a 128-117 SMCM lead with the 400 freestyle relay remaining. He finished the meet with three golds as he also captured top honors in the 200 freestyle.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE
A pair of CAC meets took place last week, with St. Mary's edging Salisbury 132-130 and York defeating Marymount 121-79 ... Mary Washington junior Zach Eisig won a pair of individual events to claim two of the five individual wins for the Eagles on the day as UMW fell to Gettysburg on Saturday, 151-108. Eisig won the 1000 freestyle at 10:11.16, and the 500 freestyle at 4:55.75 ... Salisbury's Will Gough recorded three first-place finishes against St. Mary's in the 50-meter freestyle, 400-meter medley relay, and 400-meter freestyle relay ... Russell Stoll led York to a school-record tying 11th win with Saturday's 121-79 win over Marymount in York. Stoll began the day by winning the 1,000 free (10:28.50) and earned his second win of the day in the 200 backstroke (2:00.45).
