FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Southern Virginia freshman Seth Garff and Salisbury senior Kyle Tucker secured CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for Feb. 19, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Southern Virginia freshman Seth Garff was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 10 goals and one assist in a pair of wins for the Knights. Garff found the back of the net on 10 of his 16 shots for a shooting % of 62.5%, which leads all CAC scorers with five or more goals so far this season. He opened his career with four goals and two ground balls in a 20-12 win over Ferrum, before tallying six goals and one assist in a 24-20 triumph over Pfeiffer.

Salisbury senior Kyle Tucker secured CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting a conference-leading 11 caused turnovers along with 17 ground balls in a trio of wins for the Sea Gulls. Tucker's top performance came in the Sea Gulls' win over Widener last Saturday, registering a season-high six caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Tucker has helped the Salisbury defensive unit to a 7.33 goals against average and caused turnover average of 15 per game as well.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Eight of the nine CAC men's lacrosse teams have opened the 2018 season, with Wesley set to begin play this week ... Salisbury is ranked No. 1 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) rankings, while York is ranked No. 5. Christopher Newport and Frostburg State are receiving votes ... CNU freshman Dylan Rice became the first Captain in program history to record five goals in his collegiate debut in a 12-7 victory over No. 20 Washington & Lee. With that effort, he also became the second player in school history to notch at least five goals against a nationally-ranked opponent, joining John Thompson who accomplished the feat against No. 15 Washington & Lee in 2015. Wrapping up his week, Rice came back with two more goals during the squad's 10-9 win over Berry on Friday. Freshman defender Max Wayne led the Captains with five caused turnovers while collecting four ground balls during the squad's first two victories of the year ... Sophomore keeper Jack Marks helped Frostburg to a 9-8 win over Ursinus with 13 saves despite the Bobcats winning just 8-of-19 faceoffs. Freshman Jason Clinton opened his collegiate career with four goals vs. Ursinus ... Junior Chris White has led Mary Washington to a 2-1 start with 10 goals and one assist through three games. He had four goals and an assist in a loss to Hampden-Sydney, and then scored two goals against Randolph-Macon. On Saturday, he scored four goals in a 17-6 win over Shenandoah ... Marymount junior Sean Friedman registered three goals and an assist in a season-opening 7-6 win over Methodist, including the game-winner with just 11 seconds left. Junior Hunter McGeeney forced a game-high four turnovers while scooping up three ground balls for the Saints ... Steve Jones helped St. Mary's to a 1-1 opening week with five points on three goals and two assists. Jones led the Seahawks with three points on two goals and an assist in the team's dominant win over Ferrum before adding a goal and an assist against No. 14 Dickinson. Ross Snodderly made four saves in posting his first career win against Ferrum and then collected a career-best 15 stops against Dickinson ... In the first three games of the 2018 season, Salisbury junior Corey Gwin has accounted for 10 goals and five assists to post a team-high and conference-high 15 points. Gwin has also posted a 59.1 shot on goal percentage. Gwin netted a career-high six goals in Salisbury's 18-6 win over Widener scoring three man-up goals and three in the fourth quarter to help put the game out of reach ... York junior Brendan McGrath has led the No. 5 Spartans to a pair of dominating wins to open the season. On Feb. 10 against No. 20 Washington & Lee, McGrath tied his career-high with seven points with six goals and an assist on just 11 shots. Against Eastern on Saturday, McGrath tallied three goals including a man up goal. McGrath has totaled 10 points on nine goals and one assist in his two games. Goalkeeper Landry Marshall owns a 4.16 goals against average with a save % of 60% in a 2-0 start for the Spartans.
