YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Matthew Crist and York senior Josh Kluver were awarded as the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for April 4, 2016.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Matthew Crist was picked as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Captains to a 2-0 week with eight goals and five assists. Kicking things off against Mary Washington, he registered seven points with four goals and three assists, tying career-highs in both categories. Three days later, he returned with six more points, including four goals, at Southern Virginia on Saturday. That effort marked his fourth consecutive four-goal outing, marking the longest streak in CNU history.

York senior Josh Kluver was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the fourth-ranked Spartans to CAC wins over St. Mary's and 20th-ranked Frostburg State. In a 15-11 win over St. Mary's, Kluver had a ground ball and four caused turnovers. He followed that up with six ground balls and three caused turnovers in an 8-4 triumph over Frostburg State. Kluver totaled seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls for the week.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All nine CAC teams are now at least halfway through the conference regular season... Salisbury (5-0), York (4-0) and Christopher Newport (4-0) remain unblemished in CAC play ... Four CAC teams are in this week's national rankings. Salisbury is No. 1 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine rankings. York is ranked No. 4 in both polls, Frostburg State is No. 20 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine rankings and receiving votes from the USILA, and Christopher Newport is No. 20 in the USILA poll and receiving votes from Nike/Lacrosse Magazine ... Salisbury (13-0) is one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the country along with RIT (10-0) ... Frostburg State senior Erik Geiser won 9-of-12 faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls in the Bobcats' loss to fourth-ranked York ... Junior Jack Carver had a big week for Mary Washington, scoring three goals and adding one assist in a 16-6 loss at CNU, and netting two goals and an assist in a 19-8 win over Wesley. He has 20 goals and 10 assists on the season ... Marymount freshman Grey Clarkson recorded 10 saves in the second-half of the Saints' defeat to No. 1 Salisbury, setting a new career high. Freshman Bryan Mcmanus continues to be Marymount's offensive go-to, posting his 10th game this season with at least one goal. He is now tied for eighth in the league in goals and leads the Saints with 27 ... Conor Jordan led St. Mary's in a hard-fought battle at York with five goals and an assist as well as three ground balls ... Salisbury's Thomas Cirillo paced the SU offense that scored 56 goals in two wins. Against Wesley, Cirillo went for six goals and one assist, including scoring his 100th career goal for Salisbury. Against Marymount, Cirillo added two goals and one assist for three points. The senior midfielder produced his eight goals last week on just 14 shots, good for a .571 shooting percentage. The 10-point week moves Cirillo's CAC leading point total up to 57, coming from 35 goals and 22 assists. Will Nowesnick anchored a defense that only allowed 23 shots on goal and nine goals in the two games, ending the week with six groundballs and four cause turnovers. With 22 caused turnovers this season, Nowesnick sits in sixth place in the CAC this season ... Southern Virginia's Zach Danneman scored six goals vs. Christopher Newport and totaled three goals and an assist vs. Virginia Wesleyan. Danneman ranks second on the team in goals and points ... Sam Seibert was consistent last week for the Wesley offense, recording a goal and two assists in each of the team's two games. Seibert leads the Wolverines in scoring with 34 goals and 10 assists on the season ... York freshman Austin Glab tallied four points on three goals and an assist in a 15-11 win over St. Mary's, and contributed a goal and an assist in the Spartans' 8-4 victory over nationally-ranked Frostburg State. For the season, Glab has 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists. His 11 assists are tied for first on the squad.
