YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury junior Samantha Johnson and Christopher Newport sophomore Bailey Lien were named the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Oct. 27, 2014. 

Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury junior Samantha Johnson was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying two goals and two assists last week, including the game-winner in overtime against No. 16 Mary Washington, securing the top seed in the upcoming CAC tournament for the Sea Gulls. Johnson scored twice and had an assist in the win against the Eagles, and put home the overtime goal 3:35 into the extra session. She also added an assist in the Sea Gulls' win over Wesley, giving her 27 in her career, which moves her into a tie for fifth in program history. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Bailey Lien was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Captains secure a pair of CAC victories last week. With CNU trailing St. Mary's 2-0 early in the first half, Lien came off the bench and tallied three saves while surrendering just one goal in a double-overtime win. Following that performance, she earned the start against Frostburg State on Saturday and picked up another victory after posting five saves against the Bobcats.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE 

Just one date of CAC competition remains for six of the seven CAC field hockey teams, with Wesley already having completed the regular season ... The five CAC playoff teams are set - Salisbury (#1 seed), Mary Washington, Christopher Newport, St. Mary's and York - with seeds 2 through 5 yet to be determined ... The CAC playoffs begin on Sunday with the #4 seed hosting the #5 seed in the first round ... Salisbury remained #1 in last week's NFHCA National Rankings with 28 of the 49 possible first-place votes, while Mary Washington moved up to #16  ... Salisbury is ranked atop the South Regional rankings, while UMW is 5th ... Christopher Newport's Belle Tunstall scored in both games last week, bumping her career goal total to 41 and tying her with Wendy Wilson for the all-time program record. She added the game-winner in double-overtime against St. Mary's on Tuesday before opening the scoring with an early first-half strike against Frostburg State on Saturday ... Christine Downie, Mary Washington's lone senior, opened the week by recording a hat trick in a 5-3 win over York on senior day, and then added a goal and an assist as the 16th-ranked Eagles fell in overtime at Salisbury, 6-5.
