2022 All-C2C Volleyball Teams & Awards Announced

2022 All-C2C Volleyball Teams & Awards Announced

The 2022 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Volleyball awards have been announced. The following are this year's honorees, as voted on by the league's head coaches:

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Samantha Taylor - UC Santa Cruz

The Banana Slugs' strongest arm had double-digit kills in 14 matches. Stepping into the void created by six graduating seniors, not only did the junior lead UC Santa Cruz in kills and aces, Taylor turned it on at the right time late in matches, including a four-set upset of No. 2 Trinity and a reverse-sweep in the season-finale win at La Verne.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Grace Rail - Salisbury

Salisbury junior defensive specialist Grace Rail was named C2C Defensive Player of the Year, the third straight Sea Gull to be honored as the league's top defender (Hailey Doughtery '19, Darian DiMatteo '21). Rail paces the C2C in total digs (494) and leads the league in digs per set (5.43) by over a full dig. She has been named C2C Defensive Player of the Week three times, the most weekly honors for any C2C player this season. Rail has posted 20-plus digs 11 times this season and 30-plus digs twice, including a career-high 39 against Mary Washington on Oct. 2 that ranks fourth in single-match program history.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Alyssa Dozier - Christopher Newport

Alyssa Dozier immediately became a key part of Christopher Newport's front row. She played in 30 of the Captain's 31 matches and finished the season with 182 kills and 70 blocks. Averaging 0.68 blocks per set, she leads all C2C freshmen in blocks per set. Dozier had multiple blocks in 17 matches, including eight blocks (five solo) in a win over Virginia Wesleyan.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Krista Rodgers - Mary Washington

Senior middle hitter Krista Rodgers gains 2022 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Rodgers, who leads Mary Washington with a .387 hitting average and 0.86 blocks per set, is also a standout in the classroom, having gained recognition on the UMW Athletic Honor Roll, the Virginia Sports Information Directors' Academic All-State Team, as well as the C2C All-Academic Team. A Business Administration major with a minor in sports management, Rodgers has achieved a 3.93 grade-point average.

COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Gabrielle Houston - UC Santa Cruz

Despite losing six seniors from last season, fifth-year coach Houston made sure this year's team had no drop-off. The Banana Slugs won 18 matches for the second-straight season, owing to tremendous team culture and her players' dedication to improvement. Assistant coaches Rowdy Lennon and Branden Torado helped with making the team practices competitive and implementing great game plans.
