Multiple School Records Broken by CAC Women's Track & Field Teams in Weekend Competition

Four CAC women's track & field teams - Mary Washington, Salisbury, Wesley and York - traveled to Baltimore, Md. for the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Invitational on Saturday, while Christopher Newport competed at the North Carolina A&T Aggie Invitational, and Frostburg State participated in the Messiah Invitational. 

Of the four squads competing at Johns Hopkins/Loyola, Mary Washington was the top finisher in fifth place with 76 points, narrowly edging out sixth-place Salisbury (75 points). UMW saw Cheyenne Falls break the school record in the shot put, with a throw of 41'-5.75". Claire Harrington finished first in the pole vault with a personal best leap of 11'-0.75", and Natalie Young was first in the 5000 meters at 17:41.

Salisbury freshman Sarah Taylor broke her school record in the pole vault, clearing 11'-0.25", more than two inches clear of her previous mark she set last week. Freshman Abby Richards was less than half a second off the school-record time in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in second place with a time of 15.71 seconds, as the top Division III runner in the field. Salisbury's 4x800-meter relay team placed second, finishing in 10:24.48.

For Wesley, Elizsha Streeter helped break four school records, leading the Wolverines to seventh place with 48 points. Streeter, a freshman, placed fifth in both the 100m and 200m dash in school-record times of 12.51 and 25.70, respectively.  Streeter also led off the sprint medley relay to a gold medal in a school-record time of 4:26.44 and ran the second leg of the record-breaking 4x100m Relay which took the silver in 49.25. Dieunise Desir and Kameko Webb also broke individual school-records in the 3,000m steeplechase and long jump.  A native of New Castle, Del., Desir took seventh in the Steeplechase in 13:05.06 while Webb took the bronze in the long jump at 16-08.75. Kadijah Doughty shattered the school record in the shot put with a toss of 41'-03.75" to take fifth in the event, while Taylor Rae Danforth broke the school mark in the pole vault with a jump of 10'-06.00".

York finished 12th of the 17 teams at Hopkins/Loyola. The Spartans best individual finish came from freshman Emily Cronise as she placed fifth in the 800 at 2:18.57. The Spartans won the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:21.17. 

At the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., Christopher Newport freshman Logan Harrington pieced together a tremendous performance in the 800 to headline several all-time efforts by the Captains. Harrington won the 800 with a time of 2:13.99, which ranks second in CNU history and places her third in the nation. In other distance events, Jessica McClelland and Julie Machamer each nabbed top-10 showings in the 1500. McClelland set the tone with a third-place performance after crossing the line in 4:48.94, while Machamer clocked in at 4:54.57. 

At the Messiah Invitational, Frostburg State junior Christina Smith collected three top-10 finishes to lead the Bobcats. Smith's best performance of the day was a fourth-place finish in the shot put, coming in at 10.46 meters. In other throwing events, Smith grabbed eighth in the javelin (29.27 meters) and ninth in the hammer throw (30.39 meters). Freshman Tiffany Cancel produced a second-place showing in the discus with a distance of 33.63 meters.
