Christopher Newport's Ranta-aho & Mary Washington's Barrow, Brogan Earn Spots in NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships
Christopher Newport senior Johanna Ranta-aho and Mary Washington seniors Kait Brogan and Ashley Barrow have been selected to compete at the NCAA women's tennis singles and doubles championships, respectively.
Ranta-aho was among 32 players earning spots in the singles tournament, while Brogan and Barrow are one of 16 doubles teams that will compete in the NCAA postseason. Brogan was also picked at the third alternate for the singles tournament.
The Division III individual championships will be played at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps from May 24-26.
The NCAA National Selection Committee picked seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions along with four at-large selections. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on win-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
Ranta-aho is 18-4 overall in singles play, including a 15-3 record at No. 1 in duals play. She has won 14 straight bouts dating back to a three-set loss to nationally-ranked Anna Maria Buraya (NYU) on February 24. In her impressive winning streak, Ranta-aho has won four matches against regionally-ranked opponents.
Brogan and Barrow have compiled a 22-3 overall doubles record this season, including a 16-1 mark in dual matches and 6-0 record in CAC matches at the No. 1 position.
