Mary Washington and Christopher Newport Women's Tennis Teams Notch CAC Semifinal Victories
A CAC women's tennis championship rematch is now set, as top-seeded Mary Washington and second-seeded Christopher Newport posted CAC semifinal victories on Tuesday. The Eagles and Captains will meet for the CAC Championship for the second straight year on Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va.
Mary Washington blanked fifth-seeded York 9-0 at the Battleground, earning yet another trip to the championship round. The Eagles will be seeking their 13th straight CAC crown in Saturday's title match. UMW is now 18-4 on the year, while York's season comes to a close at 10-5.
In a rematch of the 2014 and 2015 CAC semifinals, Christopher Newport flew past the third-seeded Salisbury, 5-0, earning a second straight trip to the title match. The match was played to decision after the Captains (14-7) swept the doubles points and then won at Nos. 5 and 6 in singles action. Salisbury falls to 13-6 with the setback.
