Mary Washington Women's Tennis Caps Off 10th Consecutive Perfect CAC Regular Season; CAC Tournament Field Set

The 18th-ranked Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated 33rd-ranked Christopher Newport 8-1 on Saturday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center to complete its 10th straight perfect CAC regular season and lock up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. 

Following this weekend's action, the CAC Tournament field and seeds have been locked up. No. 2 Christopher Newport (13-6, 6-1) will host No. 3 Salisbury (13-5, 5-2) in a semifinal match on Tuesday, April 19, while No. 1 UMW (16-4, 7-0) will host the No. 4/5 winner in the other semifinal. 

No. 4 St. Mary's (8-8, 4-3) will host No. 5 York (7-4, 2-4) in the first round on Friday, April 15. 

Two regular season contests remain on the CAC schedule - York at Penn State Harrisburg and Frostburg State at Southern Virginia, both on Tuesday. 

UMW also competed in non-conference action on Sunday, dropping a tight home matchup to Carnegie Mellon, 5-4

On Saturday, York defeated Frostburg State 5-0 for its second conference victory of the year. 

CNU swept a pair of CAC matchups in Pennsylvania on Sunday, dropping York, 5-0, before defeating Penn State Harrisburg, 9-0. Despite the loss, the Spartans secured the fifth and final CAC postseason spot. 

Salisbury recorded a 2-2 weekend with a pair of CAC wins and two non-conference defeats. On Saturday, the Sea Gulls topped St. Mary's 7-2 and fell to TCNJ 6-3. On Sunday, the Sea Gulls blanked Frostburg State 9-0 and fell to Washington College, 6-3. 

In other non-conference action on Sunday, St. Mary's earned an 8-1 triumph over Stevenson.
