Top-Seeded Mary Washington Blanks Fourth-Seed St. Mary's, 9-0, To Advance To 2014 CAC Women's Tennis Championship Match
The #21 University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated St. Mary's 9-0 on Wednesday. The Eagles did not lose more than one game in each of the six singles matches. UMW will face Salisbury in the CAC Championship on Saturday.
The Eagles dominated from the opening serve, winning all three doubles matches 8-0. Lindsay Raulston and Shelby Harris knocked off Shannon Ramsey and Emily Stumpfig at number one, while Alina Suyama and Alex Ritter teamed up to beat Lauren and Emily Rost at two. Ashley Barrow and Mackenzie Smith completed the sweep with a win over Kayla Baier and Liza Moore at number three.
UMW saw all six singles matches won in straight sets. Raulston kicked things off with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ramsey at one singles. Harris, and Ritter each won 6-0, 6-1 at two and four respectively. Berri Flood picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles against Moore. Both Mackenzie Smith and Chrissy Gaul won 6-0, 6-0 at three and five singles.
Mary Washington will host Salisbury in the CAC Championship on Saturday. Time of the match has yet to be determined.
