St. Mary's and Mary Washington Claim Second-Place Finishes at Invitationals; St. Mary's Raab Breaks Three Records at Yellow Jacket Invitational

St. Mary's and Mary Washington each claimed second place at invitationals over the weekend to lead a group of three CAC women's teams in action. 

At the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon, St. Mary's senior Brooke Raab established three records and won three events in leading the Seahawks second-place finish among the 10-team field on Saturday. Raab started Saturday by winning the 400 individual medley with a meet record time of 4:39.33, and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a meet and school record time of 1:07.05, breaking the mark (1:07.61) set by Kelly Heyde '13 two years ago at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. Her third gold medal came in the 200 breaststroke as she captured the event in 2:27.73.

The Seahawks added a school record in the 800 freestyle relay, finishing second in 7:53.76 and shaving 3.11 seconds off the mark set 10 months ago at the 2014 CAC Championships. Setting the record were Raab, juniors Zoe McIlmail and Cara Machlin, and first-year Elizabeth Straathof

Mary Washington took second at the Gettysburg Invitational with 845 points. Winners for the Eagles included Anna Corley in the 200 backstroke at 2:06.12 and 200 IM (2:08.05), Stephanie Hallock in the 100 freestyle at 53.48 and the 50 freestyle at 24.65, and Ashley Walnut won the 1650 free at 18:06.81. Abby Cox won the 400 IM at 4:35.25. 

Marymount placed sixth at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, led by Claire Thomas. Thomas grabbed first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.67, and also took fourth in the 200 freestyle at 1:58.52. Bridget Wunderly secured a pair of fourth-place marks for the Saints in the 100 butterfly (1:00.60) and 200 butterfly (2:17.97).
