Frostburg State's hannah Edler To Compete In Two Regional Swim Meets This Weekend

Frostburg State freshman swimmer Hannah Edler is set to compete in the Long Course Meter Invitational on Thursday and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Friday and Sunday held at the United States Naval Academy's Lejeune Hall.

Thursday's Long Course Meter Invitational provides student-athletes the opportunity to swim for Olympic qualifying marks in an attempt to advance to the USA Olympic trials.

Edler is coming off a weekend in which she set school records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships.  She turned in a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle on Friday night in 24.81 seconds, breaking the previous record of 25.14 set by Nicki Fowler in 1987.

On Sunday, Edler set the 100-yard freestyle record in the preliminary heat in 54.82 seconds, shattering the old mark of 55.44 by over a half of a second.    Edler swam a 54.85 in the finals and finished fifth.

Edler has qualified in both events this weekend.  Action at the Naval Academy gets underway at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
