INTRODUCING ... Salisbury University Junior Women's Swimmer Janelle Irwin

Among the many local students that attend Salisbury University is junior Janelle Irwin, a history major who is a member of the women's swim team and this week's INTRODUCING ... featured student-athlete.

What is your background in the sport you play?  I've been swimming for seven years, but in the last three years, I have been swimming at a higher level of competition. I have also coached for past teams that I competed for.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  The green space in front of Holloway Hall in the spring when there's a soccer or frisbee game going on because it looks like a scene from a movie.

Other than your team, what organization(s) do you participate in?  I'm a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, the Phi Eta Sigma honor society, and the Pi Gamma Mu honor society.  These organizations have charity drives such as donating Christmas presents to local elementary schools.  I'm also a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?  The more important societal issue facing college students is their political standing and party preference because, at this point, a lot of college-age students are being influenced by public media and are in the process of figuring out their own standing.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?  My major is History.  The most important thing I've learned from it is that the past can always provide an answer for the present.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  My favorite form of entertainment is anything that consists of the beach, from swimming and surfing to bonfires and meteor showers.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with. I'd like to have dinner with my grandfather, Sacagawea and Megan Downey.  My grandfather because he was only alive for two years that I was, so I would like to meet him at an age when I can remember him.  Sacagawea because I just wrote a research paper on her and would like to see if she agrees or disagrees with what I wrote.  My best friend for 13 years, Megan Downey, because we don't get to see each other often since we live five states away from each other.
