Christopher Newport and St. Mary's Secure First-Round Byes in CAC Women's Soccer Postseason; York Claims Final Playoff Spot

Christopher Newport and St. Mary's secured the top two seeds and first-round byes in the CAC Women's Soccer Tournament with Saturday conference wins, while York earned an overtime victory to nab the sixth and final postseason bid. 

Following Saturday's action, the six-team tournament field is set. CNU (13-3-1, 7-1 CAC) and St. Mary's (9-6, 7-1) sit in first and second place, respectively, and earned the right to host CAC semifinal matchups on Tuesday, Nov. 3. CNU holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Seahawks, so a Captains' win in their regular season finale would give them the No. 1 seed. 

CNU held off Penn State Harrisburg, 3-2, in Newport News, Va., for its eighth straight victory.MiAsia PinckneyLindsay Mondloch and Shaydah Naraghi tallied goals for the Captains, while Kristen Stark scored both goals for the Lions in the loss. 

St. Mary's blanked Marymount 4-0 in Arlington, Va. Four different players found the back of the net for the Seahawks - Caroline RiveraGillian SawyerMorgan Rusinko and Ellen Airozo

Frostburg State (9-6-3, 5-1-2) and Salisbury (11-4-1, 5-2-1) will be the third and fourth seeds and host first-round contests next Saturday, Oct. 31. Exact seedings for the Bobcats and Sea Gulls will be determined following next week's regular season finales. 

Frostburg State defeated Wesley 7-0 at home. Senior Erin Worthman, the team's leading scorer, led charge up front for the Bobcats. She finished with two goals and one assist and posted a game-high five shots.

Salisbury used three second-half goals to take down Mary Washington, 3-1, in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles (9-7-1, 4-3-1) will be either the fifth or sixth seed in the CAC Tournament, with a first-round road game on Oct. 31. Ruthie Lucas, Casey Arnone and Kandace Racine found the net for the Sea Gulls, while Leah Roth tallied the UMW score. 

York (6-9, 4-4) posted a tight 2-1 overtime victory against Southern Virginia at home to lock up the final CAC postseason bid. The Spartans will be either the fifth or sixth seed in the playoffs. Freshman Emily Huey lifted York to the win with the game-winning goal 26 seconds into overtime. Maxine Herman registered the regulation goal for York, while Tatiana Monsen scored for the Knights.
