Frostburg State And Stevenson Win Saturday, Will Play Sunday For 2011 ECAC South Women's Soccer Championship

CAC rivals Frostburg State and Stevenson won semifinal games Saturday and will face each other Sunday for the 2011 ECAC South Women's Soccer championship.

FSU defeated Penn State-Altoona, 5-1, while Stevenson edged Albright by a 1-0 count in Saturday's semifinal contests.

The Bobcats (16-2-2) and Mustangs (14-5-3), who tied for second place in the CAC regular season with 6-1-1 records, played to a scoreless draw during the regular season.  The teams also played in the 2010 CAC title match, which Stevenson won in overtime by a 1-0 margin.

In Saturday's first semifinal game at Bobcat Stadium, FSU exploded for three goals in a five-minus span midway through the first half en route to a 5-1 win over PSU-Altoona. Sophomore forward Adria Graham continued her red-hot streak with two of those first three goals. Both scores came on breakaways, with freshman Chelsea Paskowski springing her in the 12th minute and senior Dorie Gedridge provided the assist in the 28th minute.

Graham had three other breakaway opportunities denied by Penn St. Altoona keeper Lindsay Raspanti. Frostburg's middle goal in the 22nd minute resulted from one of those chances. After Graham was stopped by Raspanti, she couldn't corral the ball just outside the left post.

The Lions' clearing attempt was unsuccessful, however, and sophomore Chelsea Paskowski sent the ball back into the box. Senior Erin Ford fed freshman Stephanie Fazenbaker for the goal that made it 2-0.

Although Altoona's Meredith Waters answered less than two minutes later to make it 3-1, Fazenbaker surely wasn't finished.  The freshman broke open the match in the 66th minute off a cross from Gedridge. Just two minutes later, Fazenbaker completed the hat trick by heading home a Liz Seligman corner kick.

In the nightcap, Stevenson freshman midfielder Brandy Frehrkolb took an assist from senior forward Stephanie Eyler and scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute as the Mustangs eliminated Albright, 1-0.

Goalie Brittany Ross registered two saves on four Albright shots to get the shutout for the Mustangs, her10th in 21 matches this season.
