Stevenson Women's Soccer Travels To Rowan To Face The Profs Saturday In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

The Stevenson women's soccer team will make its third appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday, November 13 when the Mustangs travel to Rowan to take on the Profs beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Rowan will be the site of three first and second round games as two-time defending national champion Messiah will face Manhattanville Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Saturday's two winners will then meet in the second round on Sunday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m.

Ticket prices for Saturday's game will be $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and senior citizens and $2.00 for children 12 and under.

The Mustangs (12-6-1) are making their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2006 when they finished the season with a school record 15 wins. The team also advanced to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship in 2000.

Stevenson is 3-2 in two previous NCAA championship appearances, advancing to the national quarterfinals in 2000 and the second round in 2006. The team is 0-3 all-time versus Rowan, including 0-2 on the road. The two teams have not met since 1996.

Rowan (15-2-2) received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship and is making its seventh appearance and sixth-straight. The Profs are 4-4-2 all-time in the NCAA tournament.

Last year, Rowan posted shutout victories over MIT and Rochester before falling to Ithaca in overtime, 2-1.

Messiah (19-0) has won the last two Division III national championships and three of the last five. The Falcons advanced to their 10th NCAA tournament by winning their 10th MAC Commonwealth Conference championship in the last 11 years.

The Falcons are 30-6-4 all-time in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship and have won national championships in 2009, 2008 and 2005. The team currently boasts a 71-game unbeaten streak overall and an 11-game win streak in the NCAA tournament.

Messiah's last postseason defeat came to Wheaton (Ill.) in the 2007 national title game, 1-0. The Falcons won their only previous meeting against Stevenson, 5-0 back on Oct. 6, 2001.

Manhattanville (4-13-3) won the program's second MAC Freedom Conference championship on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over FDU-Florham. The Valiants will be making their second appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship and first since 2007 when they fell to Westminster (Pa.) in the first round, 2-0.
