Salisbury and York Move on to NCAA Women's Lacrosse Quarterfinals
Salisbury and York each posted convincing victories in the third round of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, advancing both to Sunday's quarterfinals. It marks the second straight year that both the Sea Gulls and Spartans moved on to the final eight in the nation.
At Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury, Md., Salisbury defeated Denison 16-4 to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third year in a row. Dana King led the attack with three goals and one assist, Krissy Murphy notched two goals and two assists, and Gabrielle Mongo scored twice with one assist for SU.
The Sea Gulls (20-1) will take on Trinity (Conn.) (13-6) in Sunday's Elite Eight matchup at 1 p.m. The Bantams topped Rhodes College in Saturday's other game, 20-11.
In Middlebury, Vt., York avenged a loss from earlier this season with a 13-6 victory over Catholic in the Elite Eight. Meghan Fox led the Spartan attack with four goals while Nicole Clauter tallied eight draw controls and caused two turnovers in the victory.
The Spartans (15-4) will meet Middlebury (18-2) in Sunday's quarterfinals. Middlebury defeated Illinois Wesleyan 18-4 in Saturday's other regional matchup.
Sunday's winners will advance to next week's national championship weekend, playing in the semifinals on Saturday, May 26.
