17 From CAC Earn IWLCA All-Region Recognition
Seventeen CAC women's lacrosse players received All-Region recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), announced Monday. Ten received first-team honors, while seven landed on the second team.
A quartet of York players earned All-Metro Region honors. Senior midfielder Mary Castle, senior defender Karlie Dougherty and junior defender Megan Strauch were named to the first team, while sophomore attack Jayme Verman was honored as a second team all-region pick.
The other CAC athletes to earn all-region recognition were named to the Chesapeake Region squad. Salisbury and Mary Washington led the way with four each, St. Mary's landed three on the team, while Frostburg State and Christopher Newport earned one spot apiece.
For Salisbury, freshman goalkeeper Gianna Falcone and junior attack Megan Wallenhorst were named first team, and senior attack Kate Haker and senior defender Anna Sparr received second team honors.
UMW was represented on the first team by sophomore defender Maiah Bartlett and senior attack Corinne Wiederkehr, while sophomore midfielder Emily Mott and senior midfielder Mo Sunderland earned second team accolades.
The St. Mary's trio of junior midfielder Shelby Newman (1st team), senior attack Christy Bishop (2nd team) and junior midfielder Tori Poffenberger (2nd team) represented the Seahawks.
Frostburg State senior midfielder Malory Brunett was tabbed a first-team all-region performer, as was CNU sophomore attack Meaghan Galvin.
