York's Karlie Dougherty Named IWLCA Defender of the Year

York senior Karlie Dougherty picked up the biggest individual award in York women's lacrosse history as she was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Defender of the Year as announced Saturday evening by the organization.

The award caps an impressive year of awards for the senior defender, as she was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year and York's first IWLCA First Team All-American.

Dougherty was announced as the Defender of the Year at the annual IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday evening after playing in the annual North-South Senior All-Star game on Saturday afternoon.

Dougherty led the Spartans to the greatest season in school history as York went 15-6 including 7-1 in the league. The Green and White advanced to their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and earned a first-ever trip to the Elite Eight where they fell to Middlebury 10-8.

Dougherty finished her senior campaign playing in and starting all 21 of the Spartans games. She registered team-highs in ground balls (66), ground balls (45), and caused turnovers (30). Dougherty chipped in with three goals for three points including a free position goal.

She concluded her career with 102 ground balls, 107 draw controls, and 70 caused turnovers. She recorded 10 points on eight goals and two assists. She ranks fifth in school history in career draw controls, fourth in caused turnovers and seventh in ground balls.
