Sixteen CAC Women's Lacrosse Standouts Named To IWLCA All-Region Teams
Sixteen players from the Capital Athletic Conference were among the 256 players selected nationally for the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association all-region teams.
CAC champion and second-ranked Salisbury placed the maximum allowed six players on the 16-player Chesapeake Region first team, including senior attackers Katie Bollhorst and Lauren Feusahrens, sophomore midfielder Bethany Baer, junior defender Meghan Toomey, sophomore defender Laura Maskell and junior goalie Ashton Wheatley.
Mary Washington players earned four spots on the Chesapeake All-Region team, including first-team senior defender Katie Mastropaolo, first-team senior attack Keller Torrey, second team junior attack Jenna Petrucelli and second-team junior midfielder Megan Gersbeck.
St. Mary's was also represented twice on the Chesapeake Region squad, led by freshman midfielder Shelby Newman on the first team and sophomore defender Paige Decker on the second team.
Second-place York, which will join Salisbury in hosting a first-round NCAA Tournament game Wednesday (5/8), secured four berths on the Metro Region squad, including first-team senior defender Katie Vautier, senior attack Kim Wayson, junior attack Erica Mulford and second-team junior goalie Ashley Smith.
Salisbury will host Cabrini in a first-round NCAA playoff game tonight at 7 p.m. while York will welcome Washington & Lee for a first-round clash at 3 p.m.
