York Women's Lacrosse Wins At St. Mary's To Finalize 2012 CAC Tournament Pairings
York scored the first four goals of the match and raced out to a 7-2 halftime lead on the way to a 12-7 win at St. Mary's Tuesday, settling the pairings for the 2012 CAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
The top four seeds for the tournament had already been determined - #1 Salisbury, #2 York, #3 Mary Washington and #4 Stevenson. All four teams are nationally ranked.
Tuesday's result leaves St. Mary's in the #5 position for the playoffs, and Marymount will be the No. 6 seed.
Saturday's opening round of the playoffs will feature #6 Marymount at #3 Mary Washington while #5 St. Mary's plays at #4 Stevenson. First-round winners will advance to the CAC semifinals, where they'll be joined by the two teams that gain a first-round bye - #1 Salisbury and #2 York.
At SMC, the #11 York College women's lacrosse team closed out its 2012 regular season on Tuesday with a 12-7 CAC victory over host St. Mary's. The triumph gives the Spartans 13 wins (13-3 overall) on the season, tying their all-time single-season wins record of 13 set last year, including a Green and White record-setting 7-1 mark in CAC play. The Seahawks fall to 8-8 on the year and 4-4 in conference action.
The Green and White's 13th regular-season victory of the season marks a new program-best for wins during the regular season. York's 13th win during their record-setting 2011 campaign came in the first round of the CAC Tournament.
Erica Mulford's three-goal performance gives the sophomore attack 32 goals on the season as she currently sits second on the squad in that category. Leah Schultz, Kasie White, and Kim Wayson each posted two tallies for the Spartans as the Green and White led 29-16 in shots. Wayson currently leads York with 50 goals on the season.
Allison Green and Katie Vautier each caused a pair of turnovers for the Spartans defensively. Vautier leads the Spartans in that category with 16 on the year. Kelsey Evans picked up the win in the cage as she put together four saves over her 60 minutes, dropping her goals against average to 7.56.
For the Seahawks, Daniella Hanaceck, Cailey Aburn, and Emily Shafer each recorded two goals while Lauriann Parker contributed a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Colleen Simpson takes the loss for St. Mary's as she registered 11 stops.
