Salisbury Leads Four-Player Contingent On 2011 ECAC Metro/South Women's Lacrosse Team
Four Capital Athletic Conference players, including three first-team honorees from Salisbury University, were named to the 2011 ECAC Metro/South Women's Lacrosse all-star team.
Salisbury seniors Trish DiGirolomo and Liz Filgueras and junior Allie Wheatley all earned first-team ECAC selections. Stevenson junior defender Sarah Pincus was a second-team ECAC Metro/South honoree.
DiGirolomo, who was also a first-team All-American, scored 38 goals and 53 assists for a team-leading 91 points in 2011 as an attack. She was also tops on the team in assists, finishing seventh in the nation in assists and assists per game (2.79), respectively.
Filgueras, a second-team All-American, led a defense which ranked eighth in the country, limiting the opposition to just 7.23 goals per game. Filgueras led the team in ground balls (29) and was tied for first on the team in caused turnovers (20).
Wheatley was also a second-team All-Region selection in the midfield with a team-best 46 goals, including five game-winners. She also paced the Gulls with six free-position goals and 43 draw controls.
Pincus started all 17 games this past season and earned All-CAC First Team honors while leading the Mustangs with 25 caused turnovers, a mark that is fourth all-time in school, single-season history. She was also fifth in the CAC and enters her senior season with 43 caused turnovers, 11th-most in school history. She was also recently named to the Jewish Sports Review's 2011 Women's College All-America Lacrosse Team as a first team selection.
