Salisbury Senior Anna Hackett Receives WBCA All-America Honorable Mention; Lewandowski Named Regional Coach of the Year
The postseason accolades continue to roll in for the Salisbury women's basketball team, as senior point guard Anna Hackett and head coach Kelly Lewandowski were honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Thursday evening.
Hackett was selected as a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, becoming the fifth Sea Gull to earn the honor in program history. The award is just the latest in a season of honors for Hackett, who was named the CAC Player of the Year and the D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year as well as being named to each all-star team's first team.
Hackett scored 18.1 points per game in 2014-15, which ranked in the top 50 in the nation, and also notched 4.2 assists per game. Both totals were second in the CAC, as Hackett helped the Sea Gulls to the regular-season and CAC tournament titles this year. Hackett also connected on 86.8 percent of her free throws, which ranked 17th in the nation.
Salisbury set a program record in wins, going 28-3 on the season, making the deepest NCAA tournament run in the 90-year history of Sea Gull women's basketball, advancing to the sectional finals for the first time ever.
The honor is the way Hackett caps one of the best careers in the history of the program, as she climbed the school record books throughout her four years in maroon and gold, finishing second in program history in points (1,766) and third in assists (509).
Over Hackett's four years, she appeared in all 111 games, starting 105, while leading the team to a 76-35 record including three trips to the CAC tournament semifinals and the CAC championship this year.
Lewandowski was one of eight coaches to be named a Regional Coach of the Year after leading the Sea Gulls to a record-breaking campaign that included a NCAA Elite Eight appearance, the CAC Championship and an overall record of 28-3. This is her third accolade for the season, as she received CAC Coach of the Year and the Regional Coach of the Year award from D3hoops.com.
With the honor, Lewandowski is now one of eight finalists for the Pat Summitt Trophy, awarded to the 2015 National Coach of the Year. The Coach of the Year will be named during the Fifth Annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 6, in the Grand Ballroom at the Tampa Marriott Waterside. This event is part of the WBCA National Convention and is held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four.
