Salisbury and Christopher Newport Set for Another Softball Championship Rematch on Saturday

Top-seeded Salisbury and second-seeded Christopher Newport will clash with the CAC Championship on the line for the third straight year on Saturday following Friday's day two action in the CAC Softball Tournament.

The Sea Gulls and Captains will square off on Saturday at 10 a.m. Salisbury needs one win to secure the title, while CNU must win twice to capture its third consecutive crown.

Salisbury, ranked No. 5 in the nation, and CNU, ranked eighth, opened the day with a winner's bracket showdown with a spot in the title game at stake, and the Sea Gulls came out victorious, 7-3, behind a six-run bottom of the fifth inning.

Eight of the 10 runs in the game were scored in the fifth, as the Captains took a 3-1 lead with a pair of run in the top half of the frame. The Sea Gulls answered with an explosive six-run bottom of the fifth to jump out to a 7-3 edge that they would not relinquish.

Friday's middle game featured third-seeded Frostburg State and fifth-seeded Mary Washington in an elimination game, with the Bobcats edging the Eagles, 3-2.

After a brief rain delay, Frostburg State then faced off against Christopher Newport for spot in the title round, with the Captains running away with an 8-0 triumph.
