Johnson Silences CNU's Bats For The Second-Straight Day As Salisbury Softball Wins NCAA Super Regional
Salisbury All-American pitcher Rachel Johnson silenced Christopher Newport's offense for the second-straight day as the Sea Gulls posted a 5-0 victory over the Captains to win the NCAA Super Regional title and advance to the NCAA Championship for the third-straight year.
Johnson, who threw a one-hitter against the 11th-ranked Captains Friday, surrendered just three hits in Saturday's Game 2 of the Super Regional to pick up her 26th victory of the season. Johnson allowed two walks while fanning eight Saturday.
Salisbury (35-6) jumped on top early with two runs in the first and added single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Paige Knussman led the Sea Gulls with a 4-for-4 day with a double and homer, two runs scored and two RBI. Designated player Annah Brittingham added two singles and three RBI to the attack.
Christopher Newport (30-9), the two-time CAC champion, ends its season for the second-straight year in the Super Regional at Salisbury.
