The Salisbury University softball team knew it was in the NCAA tournament, thanks to an 18-0 win in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game on April 17. The Sea Gulls knew they would be hosting an NCAA regional tournament, as it was announced last month.

On Monday afternoon, the tournament field was released by the NCAA and Salisbury found out it would begin play in the championship as the No. 3 seed in its regional, which will feature eight teams.

The Sea Gulls (33-4) will take on the sixth-seed Farmingdale State College Rams in the their first game on Thursday at 2 p.m.. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The remaining six teams that will come to Salisbury are top-seed Emory University, second-seed Rowan University, fourth-seed Virginia Wesleyan College, fifth-seed Christopher Newport University, seventh-seed Shenandoah University and eighth-seed Kean University.

Salisbury has not lost on the SU Softball Field during the 2011 season, winning all 15 games. The Sea Gulls have played two of the teams in their regional this year, splitting two games against Shenandoah and taking one of three from Christopher Newport.

This will mark the 16th NCAA tournament appearance for the Sea Gulls, who will be looking for their seventh World Series appearance and first national championship.
