The Christopher Newport men's cross country team pieced together a 32nd-place finish, while Lydia Cromwell placed 213th as an individual qualifier on the women's side during the 2015 NCAA National Championships hosted by Wisconsin - Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Club.
Making their first appearance on the national stage since 1994, the men compiled 845 points, which placed them 32nd in the country. It marks only the third time that CNU qualified for the national championships after finishing 20th in 1984 and 21st in 1994.
Grayson Reid topped off a spectacular sophomore season with a team-best 138th-place finish in the 8k. The second-year speedster, who won the CAC championship earlier this season, registered a time of 25:43.0 at the national meet.
Billy Rabil was up next for the Captains after crossing the line in 213th with a time of 26:09.6. Andrew Benfer placed 239th in 26:21.3, while Daniel Read was 248th in 26:31.7. On the women's side, Cromwell capped off a decorated cross country career with a time of 23:05.2 in the 6k. A four-time All-Conference selection and two-time All-Region pick for her performance on the course, the senior eventually finished 213th in the nation on Saturday. That marked a 56-spot jump from her effort as a junior when she came in 269th in the country during the 2014 national championships.
