The snow that coated York College's home course at Rudy Park set the stage for a dominant performance by the Spartans' men's cross country team, which registered the first three finishers out of 94 in the race to capture the 2011 CAC championship - the first in team history.

Sophomore Tim Hartung and junior Steve Childress crossed the finish line neck-and-neck - Hunting was declared the winner by .02 seconds - and were followed in third place by sophomore John Wallace, to lift the Spartans to the team title. 

York's team total of 24 points, which included a sixth-place finish by sophomore Aaron Robertson and a 12th-place finish by sophomore Matt Smith, outdistanced Mary Washington (46 pts.) and Salisbury (66 pts.) for the crown.

That snapped the dominance in the meet by Mary Washington and defending champion Salisbury, which combined to win the first 20 CAC men's cross country team titles.

Childress was picked as the first YCP runner to be named CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Robertson was named CAC Rookie of the Year and YCP's Erick Camodeca was picked by his peers as the 2011 CAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. 

Robertson is the third Spartan to win the CAC Rookie of the Year, joining Dan Morick (2003) and Jesse Jaeger (2005) in that exclusive club.  Camodeca was also chosen as the 2011 CAC Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year after the Spartans won the championship during the spring outdoor season.

Mary Washington joined York with four of the top 10 runners across the finish line on the way to a second-place team finish.  Sophomore Daniel Ache led the way with a fifth-place finish and joined Hartung, Childress and Wallace on the first-team All-CAC squad while junior Sean Healy (8th) and seniors Stephen Harrison (9th) and Kyle Anderson (10th) all earned second-team All-CAC honors.

Salisbury's John Fitzgerald (fourth) and defending CAC champion and Rookie of the Year Ryan Jackson (seventh) completed the first-team All-CAC squad, leading the Sea Gulls to third place in the team standings.

Rounding out the team standings were Hood (120), St. Mary's (147), Frostburg State (164), Marymount (223), Stevenson (231) and Wesley (252).
