Mary Washington Sweeps Team Titles In All Four Cross Country Races At McDaniel

The University  of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams swept all four races at the McDaniel College Green Terror Invitational. CAC teams from York, Stevenson, Hood and St. Mary's also competed in the chases held in Westminster, Md.

In the men's 5K, UMW finished first with 17 points. Sophomore Scott Plunkett finished second overall at 16:38, followed by Kyle Anderson in fourth place at 16:44 and Chris Marino in fifth place at 16:51. Sean Healy was UMW's fourth finisher in 16th place at 17:20.

York (second), St. Mary's (third) and Hood (fifth) were among the top five teams while Stevenson placed eigthth in the team standings.  York's Tim Hartung (7th) and Steve Childress (9th) were among the other top finishers in the race.

The Eagle men were first in the 3K race, with Marino taking first overall at 9:43, Anderson taking third at 9:49, and Plunkett taking fourth at 9:52. Jeff Branson was UMW's fourth finisher at 10:09 in 12th place. 

York was second in the men's 3K, followed by Hood in third place, Stevenson in fifth and St. Mary's in 10th.  Hood's Brent Shelly (7th place), York's Ryan Janes (8th place) and Childres (9th place) also finished among the top 10 individuals.

For the Eagle women, UMW took first in the 5K race with 34 points. Elizabeth Green took fourth overall at 20:39, followed by Sarah Dawes in ninth at 21:09, Kristy Witek in 11th at 21:20, and Madelyn Crowell in 13th at 21:25.

St. Mary's Shannon Rafferty was the second individual runner from the CAC, finishing fifth overall, 12 seconds behind Green, while York's Melody Parshall was sixth, just nine seconds behind Rafferty.  In the team standings, York (third), St. Mary's (fifth), Hood (seventh) and Stevenson (ninth) were all among the top 10 teams.

UMW's women won the 3K race as Green took fourth overall at 11:55, Witek was fifth at 12:11, Michaela Sands was eighth at 12:28, and Crowell took ninth at 12:29.  York was fourth in the team standings for the 3K race while Hood was eighth.
