Salisbury collected gold this weekend - 12 first-place finishes - but each individual event was won by a different athlete as the host Sea Gulls captured their second-straight CAC Outdoor Men's Track & Field Championship.
Salisbury totaled 261 points to win the team title, outdistancing Mary Washington (167) for top honors. Frostburg State (80) edged York (70) for third place while Wesley (36) was fifth.
In the field events, Dylan Burkett (shot put), Xavier Stinson (high jump), Jeff Jordan (discus) and Matt McMurdo (javelin) led the Sea Gulls.
On the track, SU individual champions included Luke Campbell (110 hurdles), Tyler Austin (100), Richard Newman (200), Thomas Burke (800), Chris Sufczynski (3,000 steeplechase), Matthew Hallenbeck (1,500) and Devin Hopkins (400 hurdles).
Burkett (discus), Austin (200), Newman (400), Campbell (400 hurdles) and Hopkins (110 hurdles) all added second-place finishes in addition to their gold medal performances. The Sea Gulls also combined the efforts of Austin, Newman, Campbell and Jacob Adedeji to cross the finish line first in the 4x100 relay.
York distance specialist Tim Hartung was the only double-individual champion in the men's meet, sweeping top honors in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. Teammate Phil Cavalucci also contributed for the Spartans with a gold medal in the long jump.
Other individual champions in the 2013 meet were Mary Washington's Nick Judy (pole vault), Nathaniel Saint-Preux (triple jump), Michael Atkinson (400) and Frostburg State's Robert Davis III (hammer throw). Atkinson also paired with Eagles Matt Bechtel, Matt Shaughnessy and Alan Meyer for the top performance in the 4x400-meter relay.
