UMW’s Willenborg, SU’s Beaujon Seize C2C Tennis Player of the Week Laurels

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the sixth week of the 2026 spring tennis season.  Mary Washington's Asher Willenborg was named C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Salisbury's Gibelle Beaujon took home C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Asher Willenborg, Mary Washington

Mary Washington junior Asher Willenborg scored a pair of singles wins over nationally-ranked opponents this weekend, as #20 UMW dropped a 4-3 decision to #13 Kenyon, and downed #38 Grinnell, 6-1, as part of a 2-1 week. Willenborg topped Alejandro Gonzalez of Kenyon, 6-3, 6-4, and then Lucas Willett of Grinnell, 6-2, 6-3. He and Trevor Rein fell 7-5 to Kenyon, but rebounded to top the #1 duo from Grinnell, 6-0.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gibelle Beaujon, Salisbury

Salisbury junior Gibelle Beaujon took the court eight times and won all eight matches as part of the Sea Gulls' perfect 4-0 expedition through the Pacific Northwest. Playing first singles, she won all four matches in straight sets over Puget Sound (6-1, 7-5), Willamette (6-0, 6-2), Lewis & Clark (6-1, 6-2), and Pacific (6-3, 7-5). In first doubles, Beaujon and Cleo Solomon teamed up for 6-3, 7-5, 6-3, and 6-4 decisions against the same four opponents.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Gurv Suri posted a 5-1 record over his six matches during the Sea Gulls' undefeated run through Puget Sound, Willamette, and Pacific. In singles play, he won all three of his fixtures without dropping a set, bouncing his foes from Puget Sound (6-4, 6-1), Willamette (6-1, 6-0), and Pacific (6-4, 6-3) with ease. In first doubles, Suri and Aron Bursztyn won a pair of 7-5 decisions in the Puget sound and Willamette matches… Christopher Newport's Nesh Kumaresan defeated Paulo Pocasangre Kreling at No. 3 singles in the Captains only matchup - a loss to Grinnell - this week. He won 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-5. In doubles, he dropped a 6-2 decision with partner Gabe Smith at No. 2… Christopher Newport's Kylie Schaefer won all six of her matches this week as CNU hosted the Natalie Pitts Memorial Invitational. CNU defeated No. 32 Whitman, and dropped matches to No. 18 Case Western Reserve, and No. 15 Tufts with Schaefer accounting for three team points in singles and contributing to one in doubles. Schaefer captured two wins over nationally-ranked opponents this week with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against No. 32 Renata Rosell (Whitman) and a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win against No. 39 Melanie Woodbury (Tufts). She also won against CWRU's No. 2, Katie Wong, in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 final. In doubles, she played with sophomore Kendal Chang for three wins at No. 1. They defeated the Whitman partnership, 6-4, the Case Western top tandem, 6-3, and the Tufts doubles No. 1, 6-2… Mary Washington freshman Sarah Sandoval Banuelos scored wins in singles and doubles as #34 UMW defeated Grinnell College, 5-2, on Saturday. She and classmate Isabella Rotaru gained a 6-4 win at two doubles for the Eagles, before gaining a 6-1, 6-3 win at four singles over Isa Voinescu.
