Mary Washington Men's Tennis Completes Eighth Straight Perfect CAC Season; CAC Tournament Field Set

The 27th-ranked Mary Washington men's tennis team swept past 20th-ranked Christopher Newport 9-0 on Saturday to clinch its eighth straight unbeaten CAC regular season and secure the top seed in the CAC Tournament. 

The Eagles (15-8, 7-0 CAC) have now won 44 consecutive CAC contests with their last loss coming during the 2008 season. CNU (12-6, 6-1) saw its six-match winning streak snapped. 

With just two matches left in the CAC regular season - both set for Tuesday - the five-team CAC Tournament field and matchups are already set. No. 2 Christopher Newport will host No. 3 Salisbury in the semifinals on Wednesday, April 20, while No. 1 UMW will host the winner of the first round matchup between No. 5 St. Mary's and No. 4 Southern Virginia. The first round match is slated for Saturday, April 16. 

UMW competed in non-conference action on Sunday against No. 7 Carnegie Mellon, falling 7-2

Also on Sunday, CNU posted a pair of shutout victories at York, 5-0, and Penn State Harrisburg, 9-0. With the two wins, the Captains clinched the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament. 

Salisbury improved to 5-2 in CAC action and 10-8 overall with a 2-1 weekend. The Sea Gulls opened with a 9-0 shutout home victory over St. Mary's on Saturday. On Sunday, Salisbury blanked Frostburg State 9-0 and fell to Washington College, 5-4, in non-conference play. 

In other action on Saturday, Southern Virginia (9-8, 3-3) evened its CAC record with a 9-0 win at Penn State Harrisburg, while York picked up its first CAC win with a 5-1 triumph at home over Frostburg State

On Sunday, St. Mary's (7-9, 3-4) dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Stevenson in non-conference action.
