Tom Snelson Named Men's Tennis Coach at Southern Virginia
Southern Virginia Athletic Director Jason Lamb on Monday announced the hiring of Tom Snelson as the head men's tennis coach.
"We are excited to bring Tom to Southern Virginia athletics," said Jason Lamb, "he brings a wealth of experience as a Division I athlete and coach of many Division I players. He will make an immediate impact on the growth of our men's tennis program."
Thomas Snelson graduated from Brigham Young University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science. While in school, Snelson played #2 singles and doubles for the BYU tennis team. As a senior he helped the Cougars reach the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA.
Currently Snelson holds professional ratings in the Professional Tennis Registry for adult development, high performance, 11-17, and 10 & under. He was a high school coach for three years and has spent four years as a private tennis coach.
Snelson was married to his wife Monique in 1987. They are the proud parents of five children, all tennis players. His oldest son played at BYU-Hawaii and has a daughter currently playing at Auburn University.
Coach Snelson and his family will be moving to Buena Vista, Va. in the coming school year.
