Eckhoff Breaks School Record In 500 Freestyle To Lead Mary Washington Swimmers At First Day Of 2013 NCAA Championships
Highlighted by senior Nick Eckhoff's school
record in the 500 free (4:34.73) the University of Mary
Washington men's and women's swim teams are off to a solid
start at NCAAs in Shenandoah, TX.
Eckhoff's swim placed him 23rd overall which is his highest
finish ever at the NCAA meet and sets him up very well heading into
his main events, the 200 free in which he is seeded 14th and the
200 backstroke.
Also swimming in the mornings individual events was sophomore
Alex Anderson who represented the Eagles in the 50
free, while his time of 20.86 was just off his CAC conference
record of 20.40 set in February. It was over 0.3 faster
than he was at this meet last year and good enough for 30th place
overall.
The Eagles also had entries in the 200 medley relays for both
the men and the women. While the women were called for a
disqualification, the men (Sean Mayer,
Peter Slattery, Misha Yelmgren
and Anderson) recorded the second best time in program history
(1:33.28) and finished 18th in the country, moving up four places
from their original seed.
The Eagles continue at NCAAs tomorrow morning with prelims
starting at 10 am, with swims in both the 200 free relays, men's
400 IM, women's 100 fly, men's 200 free and both medley
relays.
