Mary Washington Swimming To Send A Record 10 Swimmers To The 2013 NCAA Championships
The University of Mary Washington men's and women's swimming
teams will send a school-record 10 athletes to the NCAA Division
III Championships in Shenandoah, Texas, next week. Official psych
sheets were released Monday night.
The men will send a record six swimmers to the meet. Senior
Nick Eckhoff will swim the 500 yard freestyle, the
200 yard backstroke, and the 200 freestyle; sophomore Alex
Anderson will compete in the 50 yard freestyle, the 400
yard IM (where he is seeded fourth), and the 200 yard butterfly
(where he is seeded first).
Eckhoff (2012) and Anderson (2013) have combined to win the last two CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Year Awards. Anderson was also the 2012 CAC Men's Swimming Rookie of the Year.
Michael Yelmgren will compete in the 100 backstroke, and
Peter Slattery will compete in the 100
breaststroke. Sean Mayer and Jack
McHugh will join the others as the Eagles will compete in
all five relays at the meet.
For the women, the Eagles will send four swimmers, including
Amber Kerico, who will swim the 100 yard
butterfly, the 100 yard breaststroke (where she is seeded third)
and the 200 yard breaststroke, where she is seeded fourth; and
freshman Katie Fago will swim the 100 yard
backstroke.
Kerico was the 2013 CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Year and
Fago was the 2013 CAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the Year.
Kerico previously won the 2012 CAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the
Year.
They will be joined by Hannah Hagy and
Stephanie Hallock in four relays in the meet as
well.
