Top-Seeded Salisbury Will Host Third-Seeded York Saturday For CAC Title In Re-Match Of 2010 Championship Game

Top-seeded Salisbury and third-seeded York both gained 3-0 CAC men's soccer semifinal round playoff victories Wednesday to set up Saturday's championship game - a rematch of the 2010 title match that was decided by a shootout.

Regular-season champion Salisbury gained a 3-0 win over visiting fourth-seeded Frostburg State to earn its second-straight appearance in the CAC title match.  As the top seed, the Gulls will host the championship game, at a time to be announced Thursday.

Third-seeded York, the two-time defending CAC champions, drove to Fredericksburg, Va., to post a 3-0 decision over second-seeded Mary Washington.  YCP won the 2010 title on penalty kicks after the teams played 110 minutes to a 1-1 draw.

York has won four titles in the last six years (five since 1998).  York has played in the NCAA Championship Tournament six-straight years.  Salisbury's most recent title was in 2008 championship - its seventh since 1999.  The Sea Gulls have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last nine seasons.

Salisbury won the regular-season showdown at York by a 1-0 margin in overtime.

Wednesday at Fredericksburg, Va., York gained a 3-0 semifinal win at Mary Washington, advancing the Spartans to the CAC championship round. With the triumph, the Spartans improve to 10-5-5, the 12th straight year they have recorded double-digit victories, while the Eagles close out their 2011 campaign with a 7-7-3 mark.

Justin Facer got the Green and White on the board in the 37th minute with his fourth goal of the 2011 season. Senior defender Trey Good played a ball into Facer who took several dribbles before unleashing a ripper from 35 yards out. His low-liner of a strike, which proved the game-winner, found the back of the Eagle net to put York up 1-0.

Just under six minutes into the second stanza, senior captain Mike Gill played a pass to Cody Pearson. In on goal, Pearson waited for Mary Washington goalkeeper Tyler Back to make a move before putting home his fourth goal of the campaign and more importantly York's second of the day.

That lead expanded to three less than five minutes later as Taylor Brummitt tallied for the Spartan side, the fourth time he has done so in 2011. Beginning on the right side of the pitch, Matt DeLong knocked a service from wide on the right flank. Gill then volleyed the ball into the mixer allowing Brummitt to redirect it into the Eagle goal.

At Salisbury, Md., the No. 17 Sea Gulls were 3-0 victors in Wednesday's Capital Athletic Conference semifinal game against Frostburg State University.

Salisbury (13-2-3) took control of the game against Frostburg (11-3-4) with a goal in the first 10 minutes of the match. Sophomore forward Trevor Sharpe gathered the ball near midfield before he streaked down the field, beat a Frostburg defender and ripped a shot into the top of the net to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead.

Senior forward Ian Wilson gave the Sea Gulls a two-goal cushion in the 16th minute. Wilson took a pass from junior midfielder Jeremy Moyer into the 18-yard box and slipped a shot past the keeper.

In the 89th minute of the match, freshman forward Matt Greene scored the final Sea Gull goal. He received a cross from sophomore forward Phil Bucheimer and found himself alone in front of the net before ripping a shot past the keeper.
